It has been said many times that the sum of the parts is stronger than the individual parts themselves. The Association is fortunate to be supported by very strong and loyal members. This support provides the Association the ability to respond in a prompt and united effort to provide technical assistance, training, and industry representation as needed. The Association attempts to increase the quality and workmanship of hot mix asphalt through technical assistance, specification development and evaluation with the Alabama Department of Transportation, and training and education with its annual asphalt paving conference. Each year at the conference well known speakers from throughout the country provide their insights on the latest HMA design, construction, and analysis. The Association has a very good relationship with the National Center for Asphalt Technology, which is the world's premiere asphalt technology research center. NCAT is located only 50 miles from the Association. On many occasions, the Associations members have participated in research studies conducted by NCAT to advance HMA technology. Currently, extensive HMA evaluation is being conducted at NCAT's oval pavement testing facility. This research was sponsored to a very large degree by the Alabama Department of Transportation and will result in a tremendous advancement of HMA technology
